Motorsport, 2024, ADAC Racing Weekend Hockenheim

Three days at the Hockenheimring. Six racing series. And August heat that has nowhere to go inside the Motodrom. The 2024 ADAC Racing Weekend didn’t have a single highlight. It was nonstop action.

From the first free practice session on Friday morning to the final checkered flag on Sunday evening, six series ran side by side: the GTC Race featuring GT3 and GT4 cars, along with the one-hour GT60 race; the Spezial Tourenwagen Trophy; the ADAC Touring Car Junior Cup; the Prototype Cup Germany; the Cup & Touring Car Trophy; and the Touring Car & GT Revival, which returned to the track after a two-year hiatus.

LMP3 prototypes. GT3 race cars. Production-based VW up! GTIs driven by drivers who are just competing in their first races. And DTM replicas that were already here thirty years ago. Rarely do so many worlds of motorsports come together in such close proximity.

For us, a weekend like this is all about timing. Knowing where you stand when it counts. Knowing when it’s worth heading into the pit lane and when it’s better to hold off. Knowing which turn works in the morning and which ones only work once the sun is lower in the sky. A schedule with six races leaves no room for detours.

And then there’s the part that doesn’t show up on any results list. The driver pulling his helmet over his head seconds before the start. The mechanic pushing the car—without an engine—back into the pit. The trophy that’s hoisted high on the podium before anyone has a chance to think. These are the images that tell the story of a race weekend—not just document it.

That’s exactly why we’re out on the track: Motorsports are fast, loud, and over before you can even take a second look. Our job is to capture them just as they were.
